Ledston Hall
This complex restoration project revitalised the Grade I Listed Ledston Hall - parts of which date back to the 13th Century. Appearing on Historic England’s ‘Heritage at Risk’ register, the building faced serious concerns over its long-term stability without significant intervention. The works have transformed the hall into four contemporary townhouses and five luxury apartments, each showcasing beautifully preserved historic features.
Ledston Hall is notably the first Grade I Listed building to receive Listed Building Consent for the replacement of its single-glazed, metal-framed windows with energy-efficient double-glazed units. Additional thermal upgrades were carefully implemented using materials compatible with the building’s historic fabric, including breathable, insulated limecrete floors. The extensive work in replacing the windows, insulating theroof and ground floor, along with the thermal properties with the plaster anddouble-glazed windows, have helped achieve improved U-values and successfully achievingimproved EPC ratings of B’c & C’s.
The scope of works included:
- Extensive masonry repairs across all elevations and window surrounds
- Use of traditional lime plaster throughout
- Restoration of stone and slate roofing
- Full mechanical and electrical installations, serviced via newly created plant rooms
The project’s success was driven by strong collaboration between the client, contractors, architects, specialist trades and apprentices. This teamwork not only led to the exceptional restoration of Ledston Hall and its removal from the ‘at risk’ register but also contributed to the preservation of heritage skills through apprentice training and shared learning.
Everyman Cinemas
Simpson has worked with Everyman Cinema over several years, delivering multiple construction, fit-out and joinery schemes across the UK, including York, Leeds, Birmingham and Canary Wharf.
These schemes involved complex construction and interior fit-out works to create immersive auditoriums, private screening rooms and stylish restaurant spaces with kitchens, bars, outdoor terraces, offices and advanced projection facilities.
Each auditorium was equipped with satellite, blu-ray and Sony 4K digital technology to ensure a cutting-edge viewing experience. Select screens also featured 3D projection capabilities, offering audiences the highest quality film presentation. Interiors were finished with Everyman's signature sofas and armchairs, complete with footrests, tables and wine coolers, delivering a cinema unique experience.
Our in-house joinery workshop designed and crafted bespoke features, including bars, wall panelling and banquet seating, to complement Everyman’s distinctive aesthetic. These elements not only enhanced the visual appeal but also contributed to improved acoustic performance.

Our joiners’ shop manufactured bespoke joinery elements, including fire doors and frames, bar and reception, feature rafts, prize display wall and the team room kitchen.
‘I could not ask for better people to work with, they were professional at all times and anything that was requested was actioned immediately, they adhered to any site rules that were in place and any questions that were required they asked and followed the instructions to a T.
They have portrayed Simpson in the best light possible and I have done this job for nearly 27 years and must say they are one of the best teams I have ever had the pleasure of working with and would 1000% recommend Simpson to others, the team are a credit to Simpson so please do pass on my thanks.’
