Goldsmiths
Simpson has completed the remodel and fit-out of two Goldsmith showrooms located in Derby and Newcastle’s Metro Centre. Each showroom underwent a substantial transformation to showcase Goldsmiths’ latest luxury store design concept and finishes all while coordinating working in a live shopping centre environment. Dedicated branded areas were created for premium names such as Breitling, Gucci and TAG Heuer, complemented by high-quality jewellery display cabinetry and a hospitality area featuring a bar.
To ensure uninterrupted trading during the refurbishment works, temporary pop-up stores were installed, allowing business to continue seamlessly throughout the project duration.
M&S
Simpson has established a long-standing relationship with M&S, having delivered a wide range of projects over a number of years. Our work spans large-scale new builds and refurbishments, to smaller works and nationwide roll-out initiatives.
Notable schemes include the award-winning flagship stores at Stratford City, White City and Bradford. The Stratford City project involved the complete fit-out of a developer’s shell to create a multi-level retail space across four floors, incorporating lift and escalator installations, a food hall, a spacious café and new concept features.
In addition, we continue to support M&S with small works across the UK and Ireland. These include internal shop-fit modifications, café refreshes, the introduction of click-and-collect facilities, deli conversions, and upgrades to self-serve coffee stations.
Next
Simpson has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Next, delivering projects across the UK for many years, some of these being undertaken in live shopping centres. Our work includes schemes in prominent retail locations such as Leeds White Rose, Liverpool, Manchester’s Arndale Centre and the Bull Ring in Birmingham. These projects typically involve structural alterations, installation and refurbishment of vertical movement, shopfront installations and full interior fit-outs.
Our largest scheme to date was at the Arndale Centre in Central Manchester, where we carried out a full refurbishment across four floors, increasing the trading area by 60%. The works included the structural formation of a new atrium, installation of an 8-metre high curved shopfront, relocation of ten escalators, and a full re-fit incorporating concessions such as Rockar, Costa Coffee and Gino D’Acampo.
We more recently reconfigured the Next store within the busy Bull Ring Centre to reduce the trading area. Works included a full strip-out across three floors, fire-stopping, lift reconfiguration, separation of services, sprinkler installation, new back-of-house facilities, and re-lamination of till units carried out in-house joinery workshop.
As part of the scheme, a new Bath and Body Works was incorporated within the store, including all M&E works, a branded shopfront, bespoke joinery and internal signage.
The store remained operational throughout the works. We liaised closely with Centre Management to ensure the programme was carefully planned and delivered without impacting the Centre’s day-to-day operations.
Primark
We worked with Primark over several years, delivering schemes nationwide on a Design and Build basis. The projects have ranged from new shell fit-outs and store extensions to maintenance works and complex structural alterations, including the installation of new lift shafts, shop fronts, and the formation of atriums.
At Oxford Street East, we expanded the sales floor space by 31,200ft2, extending into the adjacent building. This involved significant demolition to open up the party wall, requiring extensive temporary propping before installing new steelwork to provide permanent structural support.
Maintaining trading operations throughout the construction period was a key priority across most Primark stores. This was achieved through carefully phased programming, ensuring minimal disruption and continuity of service.
