  • Construction of a new reception building.
  • Structural alterations and refurbishment of museum building.
  • Service installation and the upgrade of main connections / existing services.
  • External landscaping including the creation of a patio dining area.
  • Refurbishment of the existing WC building and School House.
  • Drainage and external works to the whole site.

Liz Page, historic properties director for English Heritage in the North, said ” The new museum, café and visitor centre certainly achieves the new visitor experience and we are proud to open the doors to one of our most prestigious sites .  The team involved have worked hard and the elegant museum, which is now an excellent space, tells a better story, while being able to showcase previously unseen artefacts.”
